Rabies

RabiesTrust, wandered away from the heart, which once, like a faithful sheepdog, herded together the gentle flock of faith and perseverance, is today, from the deep bite of disappointment’s strong jaws, rabid; driven mad by the infectious disease of doubts, like a wolf it watches the scattered remnants of its flock. Irritably, with a grim snarl, it roams aimlessly, and its battered state has become its own curse, hunted and bestialized by the world. As the monster of its own pain, it howls its desperate disillusionment, and snaps into a striking stance in the volatile thicket of intentions, should anyone approach. In the high-grown grass of lies, it sidesteps the traps of betrayal, resisting the tempting morsels of promises, and cloaked in the skin of suspicion, it heals itself in the den of hope, searching for and devouring the rare roots of certainty. But its strength is finally restored by Necessity, who has herded its flock together once more for it, so that through the transfusion of their recognition, it may let their trust into Trust itself.
